It is 29 degrees in the Willits valley. Looking out I see a frozen landscape with a cold fog rising up from the small ponds left over from when it last rained. Yet the air is full of quacking, splashing, and sounds of ducks generally cavorting. When I set my spotting scope up and look to where the sounds are coming from I can see over a hundred ducks. There are Mallards, green-winged teal, wood ducks, wigeon, and coots, even a couple of Canada geese. On the edge of this wetland I spot 10 Wilsons Snipe moving rapidly in the grass. This truly is a winter wonderland!
