Week #39 Pileated Woodpecker on Patrol

This Pileated Woodpecker is taking a rest and a drink at a creek as it flies through Willits Valley. These majestic birds rely on dead standing trees and fallen logs for insect foraging. Pileated woodpeckers have large territories and utilize habitat in the valley and the surrounding forested hills.
