Week #33 Orange Sky Over Little Lake Valley

Smoke from the Oak and nearby August Complex fires turned the sky over the mitigation project red-orange and yellow for a few days last week. Smoke particles in the air were just the right size to scatter and eliminate blue color from the spectrum, allowing only red and yellow light to reach our eyes. The dedicated RCD staff remained onsite throughout the week to provide oversight of critical habitat and pastures full of livestock. The last couple of days have provided much needed relief from diminished air quality. Stay safe and vigilant during these trying times. Visit firesafemendo.org for more information on what you can do to prepare and reduce fire risk. The RCD thanks the fire fighters, police officers, and emergency personnel for their selfless work and keeping us safe. Our thoughts are with those still affected by these unprecedented wildfires.
