There are several different species of native and naturalized rose species in Little Lake Valley. The native rose, Rosa gymnocarpa, is in full bloom at the moment. These rose species are able to hybridize and produce many variations. The fragrant pink flowers and bright red rose hips attract bees, other pollinators, and birds. Since roses have been hybridized since Roman times, there are thousands of tough, long-lived hybrids that are able to adapt well to the environment they are in. Stop and smell the roses!
