Imil Ferrara, Program Coordinator- Mendocino County Fire Safe Council

On October 15th, 2018, Mr. Imil Ferrara joined the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District as the lead Program Coordinator for the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council. For the last five years, Mr. Ferrara has worked as a community organizer to build fire resilience in rural areas of northwest California. He has been an active member of three different fuels management collaboratives focused on National Forest lands in Humboldt, Trinity, Mendocino and Lake counties. As the Forest Health Coordinator for Eel River Recovery Project, he worked with government agencies, tribes, environmentalists, and private industries to build trust and consensus around fire-smart forest management. Imil is a Core Team member of FIRESCAPE Mendocino, a qualified type two firefighter, has experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, and is an experienced practitioner of prescribed fire. He graduated with highest honors from Vassar College in 2003, and is currently completing his Master’s thesis for a graduate degree in Environmental Social Science at Humboldt State University, focused on collaborative resource management and community mobilization for fire preparedness. Imil is a life-long resident of Mendocino County, an avid wilderness hiker, and cofounder of the community radio station KYBU in Covelo, Ca where he currently resides in his “tiny” house.
